Welcome to the OCRFC Minis Section. A lot has changed since the Minis section started in 2002 and we now have well over 200 boys and girls across all six age groups. We maintain an inclusive and fun ethos and are proud of our reputation as a family friendly club.
Mini Rugby is designed to introduce children to the basics of the game in a safe environment, and in line with their physical abilities and at their own pace – letting them run, chase, throw, catch and learn teamwork. Boys and girls play together and on an equal footing throughout the whole Minis section.
Under 6’s & U7’s The main aim is to develop the basic skills such as passing backwards, catching a pass, and running into space and of course, scoring tries! The players wear a belt with 2 velcro tags and a tackle is made when the opposition pull one of the tags off the ball carriers belt and calls “Tag!” There is no contact (tackling, scrums) or line-outs or kicking in these age groups. 6’s & 7’s train together, however only U7’s are allowed to play official matches or attend festivals.
U9’s – U11’s stop TAG and play CONTACT rugby gradually introducing tackling, rucking, kicking, mauling, scrums and lines outs. Squad numbers, length of game and pitch sizes increased each year!

Then come along and try us out before you join.
We offer 2 FREE Sunday sessions to newcomers via our ‘Turn up, Play… we hope you stay’ scheme. Its a great chance to test out the sport, meet the rest of your team and get a feel for our friendly community. Please contact your team Manager BEFORE coming so you know where we are or check out our ‘Whats on post’
To benefit from all that our club offers and to officially play in matches and tournaments all players are required to become a member of the RFU & OCRFC. This ensures that we can fulfil our duty of care to your child and that we are complying with our child welfare responsibilities.
We understand that paying for your child’s membership can be difficult at times and therefore we have 2 options available that might be of assistance.
Your Team Manager can help with both options and if you are applying for club funding then you can also send them a completed Financial Assistance Form
Old Colfeians adhere to the RFU’s requirements on child/U18s safety.
We require our volunteers to hold a current DBS certificate, to have undergone a RFU safeguarding course and to follow club and RFU safeguarding policies.
You can also find everything you need to know about our club in our Club Handbook – New one coming soon!
If your littles ones are under 6 yrs old and too young to be an Old Colfeian just yet, then why not get them started with one of our club sponsors Munchkins first.
Fairly safe to say that yesterday was the last time Matthew Quilter, Stephen Corlett and Tim Tunnicliff will be lining up together in the front row. Really
