POSTPONED – CRY Cardiac Testing for 14-35 yr olds

empty

As of today, CRY is reluctantly taking the decision to postpone all cardiac screening events up until the end of April. We appreciate this will be disappointing for the families & supporters who are funding these events as well as those people who have booked appointments, but we believe this is the correct course of action.

Please be reassured these events will be rescheduled and all confirmed appointments will be offered on the rescheduled date. We will, of course, liaise with you regarding new screening dates and when CRY’s screening team is able to confirm the booking.

* PLEASE DISREGARD THE INFO BELOW  *

We are VERY lucky and honoured to be hosting a ‘Test my Heart’ Cardiac screening clinic at Horn Park in memory of Anthony Fitzgerald (Blackheath RFC and friend of many at Old Colfeians).

Booking is now open and we invite as many of you as possible to take up the opportunity!

Funds of approx. £2,500 already raised by OC’s for Anthony’s fund, which means we are able to subsidise the cost of the testing (normally £50 p/p).  However…. to continue the free testing services that CRY provide in our communities nationwide there is a suggested donation of £25 but of course, do give what you can however big or small.

Please use the link below to donate by searching for Anthony Fitzgerald.
Alternatively, you can use the DONATE button on the booking page and write Anthony Fitzgerald in the notes section to make sure that  donations are allocated directly to Anthony’s fund.  Alternatively, Cash on the day will also be gratefully received!

Please note that screening appointments are on a first comefirst served basis and MUST be BOOKED online using the links below:

Please click your chosen date below and enter the Password:  ANTHONY

The online booking process involves an individual and family history questionnaire and should take approx. 15 mins.

Once the appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation email; this will include a consent form. Please download the document, read carefully before completing and take it with you on the day.

What will the test involve?

Screening involves an ECG (electrocardiogram) which is a simple, non-invasive and painless test that examines the electrical activity of the heart.  It only takes a few minutes to complete and is performed by qualified cardiac physiologists with the results being examined in conjunction with a personal and family history questionnaire.  If more details are required, then an echocardiogram (ultrasound) scan will look at the hearts size, structure and blood flow and any results suggesting an abnormality will then be passed to a CRY Consultant Cardiologist.

Who is CRY?

CRY screens many of the premier league football clubs, ECB county teams, England Cricket, Football, Hockey and Rugby teams and Team GB Olympic athletes.

CRY’s mission is to identify those that are at risk from sudden cardiac death. Sudden death syndrome is an umbrella term for the many different causes of young sudden cardiac death. These conditions include thickening of the heart muscle or an abnormal structure of the heart, and irregularities of the impulses that control the rhythm of the heart. Youngsters involved in sport, in particular, stress their heart the most and if they have an underlying cardiac abnormality, they are more likely to be at risk.

It is important to emphasise that exercise is NOT harmful and sport itself does not cause cardiac arrest, but can exacerbate an undetected condition.
