OCRFC 2’s 5 – TJs 2’s 74

This Saturday saw the 2nd XV taken on TJ’s 2nd XV at home on a windy and water swept day at Horn Park.

Sadly the weather seemed to be a precursor to the days proceedings as TJ warmed up with a full 20+ squad, complete with 4 coaches, Physio and Water Boy (..and full set of water bottles – something we seemed to be missing after they were stolen by our 3rd XV).

The game started in true Old Colfeian fashion, under our post a short 2 minutes after kick off (5-0). However, the lads quickly rallied and scored a lovely well worked try, Matt Beaver (excellent all game) crashing over to even things up. Unfortunately this was short lived and the game quickly slipped away with a number of scores from the away team in quick succession, pace and power proving too much for a team that don’t play that much/any ‘National League rugby’. Despite being soundly beaten by a better side, I take my hats off to the lads who stuck at it and showed great heart and some truly gutsy defence in parts, often to the surprise of TJ’s. The last 10 minutes perhaps the best OC’s played keeping TJ’s out from notching one final score. Whilst the score line won’t suggest it, plenty of learns to take away and opportunity to put things right on the 6th October against TW.
