Crowd entertainment a priority. A win sadly secondary…

The Stags continued their league campaign against Tunbridge Wells this week on the newly refurbished 2nd XV at Horn Park. Conditions were perfect and everyone was ready in good time ahead of the match. All except Dany Gardner of course who believes warm up is overrated!

We started at a frenetic pace and for the first 15mins blew TW off the park with quick recycling and strong running. Early scores from Freddie and Adam gave us an early lead. The pendulum always swings, of course, and as the half wore on, TW started to get themselves back in the match. They’re quick backs were starting to cause problems and with 30mins on the clock, they had scored two well worked tries to lead 10-12. A fantastic try by Alex with great lead up play by Ross gave us a foothold once more, but TW nullified that just before the break. HT score 15-17.

Soon after the break a string of key injuries really hurt with Ross, Alex and Goody heading off. But our spirit never died despite TW running in two quick fire scores with 10mins left on the clock. However, with 5mins to go, Danny G bundled over proving that a pre-match warm really is overrated to give us a glimmer of hope. A last minute try by TW snuffled that out and the score ended 20-34.

The commitment shown by lads was second-to-none and that showed in the scoreline. On a different day the score could’ve been different. Congrats to TW and we wish them the best for the season. On to next week with another home fixture vs Sevenoaks. All support welcome!!
