Crimsons U15s struggle against a strong Grasshoppers side

empty

The Crimsons U15s will be forgiven for a slow start against West London’s Grasshoppers as we were playing in freezing conditions. We had warmed up well, however, and felt we had a chance of scoring some good tries against what we knew were a decent team.

Grasshoppers scored the first few tries as our girls thawed out, when we eventually got up to speed with the game. Our forwards were strong upfront and our backs looked dangerous when we looked after the ball – but this was something we struggled to do, as we were under lots of pressure from our opponents. Oh, and I think our hands were frozen!

After some good set-piece work led by our front row, Glory, Bolu and Sienna combined to score our first points. Finally something to show for our efforts in the first 10 minutes.

Grasshoppers managed to do something we found quite hard and they held onto the ball well, managing to score a few more tries before the interval. At half time we spoke about how when we looked after the ball, we caused lots of problems!

The girls took our advice and defended much better in the second half. Bolu again dotted over and we didn’t let the scoreline get us down. Some fantastic work in defence held Grasshoppers out for much of the half, but eventually we couldn’t keep them out any longer.

We lost the game but there were many positives to take. Many of the team were new to rugby this year and we were missing a few players through injury. Our tackling was good and when we had the ball we were extremely good. Now time to fix the things we know we can improve – look out our next oppo!
