2’s Match Report against Ashford

A beautiful day at Horn Park, hosted both senior sides in front of a frenzy of tipsy men and women attending the annual Ladies Day. Today an incredibly strong OCRFC second team was facing Ashfords 2’s, in which struggled to fill a full side, turning up with only 13 players. This was the first game of the season, after the previous games had been cancelled.

Kick off starts and just 40 seconds later our very own star boy, Ollie Burkett find himself weaving through a gap and scoring a 60 metre run, then converting for another two points. This teed the route of scoring throughout the match. After Frank Blythe receiving a fantastic kickoff Frazer found himself tackled in to touch in the opponents 22, and with this a steal from the air by Matt Walker gave way to some nice horizontal play allowing Harry Taylor to run in to finish.

After some built up fazes of attack, Frazer finds himself on the wing and throws a pass on the inside to Find Harry Taylor for his second to make the score 21-0 within the first 10. More passages of play go by where Jack Potter drops a kick backwards to Slyreece, who provides his iconic sideways running into traffic. The Next try was scored By Harry Taylor again to run in his 20 min hat-Rick calling for the first jug of beer.

Ashford then find themself on the score board when catching a interception by our dynamic centre Dan Evans, leading to a 28-7 score. Next to score was a maul of a line out where Tom Rameaux falls over the line.  A short break in tries is broken when Bill Ramdhan lays a beautiful offload into the hands of Ollie Burkett to increase the score by another 5 as he missed a easy kick.

As time went on the opposition started to clearly tire, and the dominance of Old Colfes line outs didn’t allow any possession for Ashford. Next on the score sheet was Matt Walker who found himself in position to score after ‘resting’ on the wing for prolonged time, a tactical move all forwards must utilise. To finish his hat-trick of tries Ollie Burkett runs in under the posts and converts the kick, exciting all the boys with 2 jugs of beer and a bonus point jug coming out of the bar after the game at the end of the half

The Second goes starts at 52-7 and more tired rugby is played for 5 minutes until the away side find themself over the line after a strong run by the 8 off a scrum finds himself over two OCRFC veterans increasing their score to 12 points. Next to score after a strong defensive effort by Ashford on their line, was Harry Taylor again for his forth. Alfie Stuart finds himself on the scoreboard after a spilt ball by Ashford in the try zone to make it 67-12, but not for long. Ashford make there way up the pitch from kickoff and find themself over the line to make it 17 for the away side, after missing the kick. For a second time Alfie Stuart is on the scoreboard from a rolling maul, raising hopes of another hat-trick. Another blue shirt finds the tryline next with Jed Wylie the replacement 9 claimed a bobbly kick to walk it in, and for Jack potter to slot the kick. Next the North Macedonian pretty boy Victor shows us his worth at centre and finishes a beautiful run, and then scoring another 5 minutes later. To complete his hat-trick Alfie Stuart falls over the line from a maul next and to raise the score further by Jack potter converting another kick in which leads to the end of a great win by Old Colfeians 2nd team at a total of 95-17.

On behalf of all Old Colfeians players, we thank all of those who made it down on Saturday and made it such a success, these are the days which bring all OCRFC associates together and joy to everyone engaged.

Cheers, Harry Taylor
