WARM UP

I joined Old Colfeians RFC as a schoolboy at Colfe’s, playing from 2007 to 2012. I was part of the Cobras team throughout that time and played mostly in the second row.

I wouldn’t claim to have been the standout player on the pitch, but I really enjoyed being part of the squad. It was a great group, and the club environment gave me a lot — structure, routine, and a connection to something outside of school. Some of my best memories from those years were shaped by that time at OCRFC and I’m still mates with a lot of the players within that group.

THE GAME

What’s your business?

Alongside my dad, Gary Stewart, I’m the co-founder of Lyfeguard, a life management platform designed to help individuals and families organise, manage, and securely share vital personal, financial, and legal information.

The idea for Lyfeguard came from a deeply personal experience. Two of Gary’s close friends passed away in quick succession. In both cases, their families asked him to help settle the estate. What became immediately clear was how difficult that process was without access to the right information — documents, contacts, decisions — all of which were either missing, fragmented, or locked away.

That experience exposed a wider issue: the way we manage personal information is often disorganised, inaccessible, and left until it’s too late. Lyfeguard was born from that insight — to build a secure, structured, and user-friendly way for people and their loved ones to be better prepared.

While the initial idea stemmed from end-of-life planning, we wanted Lyfeguard to be a platform that’s genuinely useful day-to-day, while also serving as a lifeline in life’s most difficult transitions. It became a place to store, access, and share vital information on the go. But we didn’t want it to be just a static repository.

So we integrated Open Finance connections, enabling real-time visibility of bank accounts, credit cards, loans, mortgages, pensions, and investments — automatically. We added smart reminders for passports, driving licences, insurance, and utility contracts, helping people stay on top of renewals and expiries. And through Trusted Users, we allow individuals to share as much or as little as they want — immediately, or in the future — with people they trust, whether that’s a partner, family member, or professional.

Who do you help?

  • Individuals and families, looking to stay organised, reduce stress, and ensure loved ones can access what matters, when it matters.
  • Professionals. While Lyfeguard started as a direct-to-consumer product, we quickly recognised its value in financial advice and wealth management. It solves a persistent challenge in the sector: advisers often struggle to gather meaningful, accurate, and up-to-date information about their clients. This became even more evident during COVID, when face-to-face meetings were replaced by video calls and documents were harder to access. The data advisers do have is typically static and focused on assets and liabilities — missing the broader picture. What’s often overlooked are the soft facts: personal relationships, intentions, family dynamics, and preferences — all of which are critical to long-term planning. This is especially important in the context of two major shifts:
    • Consumer Duty, introduced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), requires firms to act in good faith, support customer understanding, and deliver better outcomes — which depends on knowing your client well beyond the numbers.
    • The Great Wealth Transfer — an estimated £5.5 trillion set to pass between generations in the UK by 2050. Too often, advisers don’t know who their client’s beneficiaries are, and risk losing the relationship entirely when that wealth transitions.
  • Lyfeguard gives professionals access — with permission — to a broader, deeper understanding of their client’s world. That includes who’s important in their life, what needs to be planned for, and how to serve multiple generations.
  • And more broadly, we believe Lyfeguard is a one-to-many platform. The individual remains in control of their information, sharing it as needed — with a spouse, family member, adviser, lawyer, or executor. Our vision is to become the digital infrastructure that enables secure, purpose-driven collaboration between people and the professionals who support them.

Who could help/partner with you?

  • Professionals, especially financial advisers and estate planners, who want to use Lyfeguard to enhance client outcomes
  • Investors aligned with our mission to simplify and protect life’s most essential information
  • Strategic partners — firms with complementary services or technology that can strengthen our platform and reach

HALF TIME

A few moments stand out, including the club tour to Dublin and the support of the coaching team, which led to me being selected for the Bromley District team in Kent.

But the favourite moment has to be training with Martin Johnson and the England squad. We were invited to St George’s Park for the day and took part in a full training session, followed by a game of tag rugby with some of the England players at the time. As a teenager, it was a surreal and unforgettable experience.

2nd HALF – Case Studies

Success Stories:

We’ve already partnered with over ten financial advice firms, many of whom have seen first-hand how Lyfeguard enhances client engagement. By enabling richer, more holistic client information to flow through to advisers — not just assets and liabilities, but relationships, documents, and personal context — we’re helping them deliver better advice, build deeper trust, and ultimately, support their clients more meaningfully.

As a business, we recently graduated from the FinTech Innovation Lab by Accenture — a globally recognised accelerator programme for high-potential fintechs. It pairs early-stage companies with senior executives from major financial institutions to refine product-market fit, strengthen enterprise readiness, and open up commercial conversations. That experience has helped sharpen our proposition for large-scale partnerships, and we’ve got some exciting announcements in the pipeline.

On a more personal note, the first time someone used Lyfeguard to release information after a death was following the passing of my grandad, Bill Bailey. While it was obviously a very difficult moment for our family, it was also deeply moving to see the platform come to life — helping us focus on supporting each other through grief, rather than wrestling with admin and uncertainty. It reaffirmed why we built Lyfeguard in the first place.

People you’re looking for:

We’d love to start a conversation if anything I’ve shared resonates. Whether you’re a professional who sees how Lyfeguard could support your clients, an individual interested in using the platform or investing in our mission, or a potential partner looking to collaborate and strengthen our offering — we’re always open to a conversation.
