3s entertain in wet and cold conditions

1498

The 3rd XV welcomed local friends, Beckenham RFC, to Horn Park on Saturday with a team filled with a lovely blend of youth and experience.

With both teams respecting a minute silence for the fallen war heroes before the game, the scene was set, and the jolly crowd crammed in to the stand cane to life after only 2mins. Good driving maul work from the forwards led to a blindside break by Terry ending with Danny G in the corner. Great start.

That was probably the last note I made in terms of try scorers, but the rest of the half turned in to a bit of an arm wrestle. Th as t said, OCs added another 3 tries but half time, two of which engineered by the younger if the group, Ryan and Huw. Huw sadly had to retire hurt after good work for one try.

Beckenham in turn had responded with a well executed penalty and a try mucked over by their large pack.

But the 2nd half saw OCs get a firm grip on the match, and the younger legs got stronger as the match wore on. Charlie crowned a great performance with 3 tries. Tommy exposed the defence in open play and set up two excellent tries.

By the end the scoreline was very one-sided which didn’t equate how much Beckenham brought to the match. Fair play to them for never giving up.

Thankfully the bar was warm and the lager cool. Goody paid his fines to the kitty for no shirt and tie and all was well.

Hoping Huw and Joe’s injuries aren’t as bad as feared and we see them soon.
