The girls from the Old Colfeians U11s and U10s minis teams got a chance to try out their skills against others in their age group at the Kent Girls U11s/U13s Festival at Medway on 16 December. Two Crimsons U13s also attended and joined a barbarians team for a series of exciting matches.
The event formed part of the Kent RFU development pathway for girls, with a specific focus on the younger girls. It was designed to encourage and train both teams and individuals. Our U10s and U11s enjoyed a different experience to the usual minis’ festivals: as well as matches, they also enjoyed dedicated RFU coaching in a skills-based session. They were a credit to the club, performing with skill and athleticism throughout the afternoon – well done Mia, Bethany, Frances, Tess, Mia, Chanel, Emily, Grace and Emer, and U13s Libby and Jasmine.
The Old Colfeians coaches wanted to take the U11 and U10s along to show them how competitive and exciting girls rugby is, in preparation for when they transition to single sex rugby in the next few years. Feedback from our players was they had a great time, enjoyed the coaching and were really inspired by seeing so many U13s girls from so many teams playing.
