Ring out the old, Bring in the new
Now when I took over the captaincy of the Vets, Old Colfeians impresario and former captain Nick Evans failed to mention that around 30 of his players had retired just like him! So after searching for weeks and weeks for players for the Annual Ashford Vets tournament, come matchday I had a squad of 16 split - 9 backs, 7 forwards (and just one prop). Undeterred by this fact, the team (I hadn’t been strictly honest with the prop situation) all promised to make it the 50 miles down the M20 for our first kick off at 1120. True to form with the match preparing to start and with a cool 5 minutes to spare, we had 16 for the first kick off. It was impeccable timing. It’s a bit longer than usual, so bear with me as it was an all day affair.
