Weekend update

A mixed bag of results for the club on Saturday with the ones winning well (see Rupert's report below) and the vets enjoying a good win. However the 2's went down 23-38 at home despite being 23-13 up with 35 mins to go against a very strong Gravesend 2's side.

This week the vets also have a cup game on the Sunday strictly over 35 years old only. The 3's are at Guys and we may try to get another game if we have enough players for four sides. The 1's face a tough away game at Sidcup. Ruperts report : "The 1's beat Tunbridge Wells 27-18 at home on Saturday, but that scoreline fails to tell the whole story. OC's played some great rugby for the first 50 minutes and were 24-3 up and had also created by then enough opportunities to at least have doubled that score. The forwards played at real pace and the off loading was very encouraging and the back line went through their opponents at will. Despite letting Tunbridge Wells back into the game with 2 late scores (which you have to say were well taken by our opponents), loads of positives to take from this game. Hard to put my finger on a reason for the apparent drop off in the 2nd half, but the 10 minute spell of 3 substitutions and at least 6 players injuries did not help us. Burto started it all off with a blood injury, then Terry who was the blood replacement had to come off, so we replaced the blood replacement with a 2nd blood replacement. All we needed was Dean Richards to pop up to complete the story. I heard the 2's had a narrow lose against a strong Gravesend team, who were hosting a few of their 1st XV regulars. The 2's were winning well, but then started to lose players to injury and eventually succumbed to the visitors pressure. Next week we face Sidcup (A) which will be a real test, but one I'm sure we are up to.
