OC Mini Rugby Festival well received

Sunday 1st March saw one of the most ambitious projects to date for the Mini section at Old Colfeians, where we held a very successful festival for over 2,000 people and 68 teams. The festival was instigated by the late Pat Robinson only six years ago and its phenomenal growth demonstrates how popular Rugby is for kids and their parents alike. It is also an endorsement of the spirit of Old Colfeians where we encourage that everyone enjoys their day, playing the game in a good spirit and ensuring that all players get the most from their sport.

The festival covered only three age groups ranging from u7 to u9 but with cups, bowls, plates and shields to play for, everyone had a chance to win something. The u9’s extended this positive ethos into running an A team and a B team tournament which was well received by all clubs as it is often difficult to keep players who are not the regular superstars interested. So much positivity has been received from players, coaches and parents alike and I am only aware of one injury all afternoon. This was a parent who fell off their bike on the way home after a few celebration drinks! Everyone is rightly proud of their achievement. However it couldn’t occur without a little army of helpers and supporters working behind the scenes on a variety of duties ranging from car park, programme, bbq, pitch marshalls, results, tents, etc. and I would like to take this opportunity to publically thank everyone for their support. We are all most grateful and lucky to have such a dedicated crew. You know who you are. If you would like to witness the success and buzz of such events, and support us in our growth, the next festival for the older lads (u10-u12) is Sunday 5th April. Please feel free to come along – you will be sure of a warm welcome!
