So there I was 10 minutes in to a long drive to Bournemouth for the Young Colfeians Mini Tour. The wife was reading the latest copy of ‘Hello’ magazine in the front, both kids in the back playing with their Nintendo DS, the sun was shining, and I was looking forward to seeing some champagne rugby (and having a few pints with Andy Baker’s brother) over the weekend.
Unfortunately, this calm and serenity was abruptly interrupted on the A20 / M25 roundabout, when some idiot in a massive red Lexus (one of those fancy new hybrid ones) started drifting between the lanes, and more annoyingly right in front of my car. Thinking it was some old codger who had fallen asleep at the wheel, I sounded the hooter, and the Lexus eventually returned to the correct lane.
I was then suffering from some mild road rage. I pulled alongside him whilst I selected from the list of appropriate hand gestures (I think I had selected the ‘pulling on the rope’ hand signal if I recall), and was just about to deliver a torrent of abuse when I noticed it was none other than Sir Paul McCartney at the wheel of the Lexus.
Obviously being mid way through the ‘pulling on the rope’ hand gesture (to the most successful musician and composer in popular music history), I decided the best course of action was to turn the hand gesture into a friendly wave whilst smiling.
He looked at me, smiled back, waved, winked his eye, and on we went up the slip road of the M25.
Ahh Sir Paul McCartney –Singer-song writer, musician, artist, activist, poet, composer, entrepreneur, film producer, record producer, painter, member of The Beatles, and a really bad driver new best mate.
